Since July 2022, there’s been a new attraction in Mallorca: Dinosaurland in Portocristo, the only Dino Park in Mallorca. The inauguration was eagerly anticipated in Mallorca, especially by my two hobby paleontologists. That’s why we visited the park shortly after its opening. Here’s our experience.

When real dinosaurs roamed the Earth 260 million years ago, Mallorca didn’t even exist. Our island was part of the landmass of the supercontinent Pangaea and only separated much later. The dinosaurs walked over the part of the landmass that would eventually become Mallorca. This is evident from fossils found on the beach at Port de Canonge. Part of the jaw of a dinosaur ancestor was studied by paleontologists in Germany and will soon be on display at the Natural History Museum in Sóller.

Life-Like Dinosaurs in Dinosaurland on Mallorca
Years ago, there was another Dino Park on Mallorca, located inland near Algaida. This park moved several times before it was finally closed. The figures back then were static. Not so in the new Dinosaurland. Here, things move, wobble, and growl around every corner and behind every bush.
More than 100 life-sized dinosaurs can be found in the Dino Park in Portocristo. They are made of a rubber-like material and equipped with mechanics that simulate the movements of these prehistoric creatures. In some places, it’s quite realistic.
The star of the group isn’t a T-Rex, although there are two of those in different spots, but the Titanosaurus, which I had never heard of before. But I’m far from an expert and only knew a few of the 40 dinosaur species featured. The Titanosaurus is said to have been the largest dinosaur, measuring over 50 meters.
This and many other details can be found on the information boards next to the animals. The information is available in four languages, including German. It’s even easier if you scan the accompanying QR code. This way, you get the information directly on your phone. Additionally, there are many great selfie spots where visitors can take pictures with the dinosaurs.
A Dinosaur Park for Young Children
Although some dinosaurs look very realistic, the 12,000 square meter park is primarily aimed at families with young children. My 12-year-old thought everything was nice, but probably wouldn’t want to visit a second time. Besides the dinos living among the trees and bushes, there are two other areas. One of them is a sandpit where kids can uncover a dinosaur skeleton with brushes.
At the Archaeologists’ Tent (or Paleontologists, who knows?), kids can draw, do puzzles, and climb onto the Rangers’ Jeep. There are many rangers (real people!) in the park. They ensure that visitors and dinosaurs stay in their designated areas, which doesn’t always work out.
Several times a day, a dinosaur (I’ve unfortunately forgotten which one) escapes and briefly terrorizes the audience in a small, funny show. Kids can have their photo taken with this dinosaur in tights.
Raptor Café & Dino Burger
As expected from an amusement park, Dinosaurland also has food and beverage spots. At the far end of the Dino Park, you’ll find the so-called Raptor Café. Here, you can get small snacks, ice cream, and refreshments. There are seating areas under shady trees. Overall, it’s a very nice corner.
Not a Dino Fan? All Theme and Water Parks in Mallorca
At the park’s exit, after the obligatory souvenir shop, you’ll find the Dino Burger. Don’t worry, no dinosaurs are served here, just tasty burgers with various toppings. Additionally, salads and pizzas can be ordered. Kids get a kid’s meal with a surprise.
Combo Package: Dinosaurs & Caves
In Portocristo, you’ll find two of Mallorca’s five tourist caves. Besides the more famous Cuevas del Drach, the Cuevas dels Hams have always been a bit overshadowed. However, they are just as impressive as the former.
The Dino Park and the Hams Caves share the same parking lot and, in my opinion, also the same marketing experts. It’s quite clever to place a major attraction for children like a dinosaur park right next to another sightseeing spot aimed at adults.
And then to offer combo tickets. Following the idea: Since you’re already here. Aside from that, I would always prefer the Cuevas del Hams over the Coves del Drac. On every single visit, the Dragon Caves were overcrowded, while the Hams Caves were less crowded and more pleasant. You can get the combo tickets online here.
